| opmerkingen | ringed, photographed. The photographs clearly showed a female Merlin, with a measured straightened wing length of 238 mm. The maximum wing length in females of F c aesalon from Europe (not in Iceland) is well short of this length. The previous six records were all of birds found dead between 1854 and 1950. This was, therefore, quite a remarkable record but, as F c subaesalon occurs regularly in winter in France and has even reached Spain as evidenced by ring recoveries, it might be overlooked in the Netherlands. | |
